Standard five: Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning.
Why is standard five important?
As a teacher it is always important to assess students on their learning. When teachers use assessment they can provide students with feedback in order to improve/develop on their learning. Teachers can use these assessment tools to help them determine where each individual student stands within the classroom. Teachers can then plan and scaffold lessons to cater for each and every individual need in the classroom. A summative assessment can help teachers determine what areas to focus on and improve students’ knowledge on. After students have completed a form of assessment it is always important to go through the assessment as a class, and go through areas that students struggled with. Formative assessments are completed throughout the learning process and are conducted to modify lessons to improve on student learning.

Action Plan 5: where to from here?
I have provided evidence of formal and informal assessment, through the use of summative assessment, formative assessment, and diagnostic tests throughout my 10-week experience. I have created all my own assessments for the students. I have pre-tested and post-tested units so I can gauge the progress of students and how they have met expectations. I have also used an oral assessment to test students’ learning, with video evidence on the ‘Seesaw’ app. Once I had recorded the results students got their tests back, and we went through the test as a class. The students have an assessment folder in which these assessments went into. I then can compared the results of the diagnostic test with the summative assessment they completed at the end of each topic, to get an idea of what needs to be covered again.
However, I need to use a variety of different ways of assessment, and learn to improve on interpreting data in order to plan for future use to further develop students’ knowledge of the topics.
