- Class circle on the school ground: Pass the footy around the circle, when students hold the footy they have to shout out their name, favourite subject in school and what they enjoy doing whey they go home from school, this activity gave me the opportunity to get to know the students on the first day they got back from holidays.
- Students also did a written piece on what they did for the holidays, and what they enjoys and what they didn't enjoy about their holidays.
- Get to know worksheet: they draw a picture of themselves, name, age, favourite animal, where they live, favourite colour, email address - this gave me the opportunity to get to know the students., and it gave the students an opportunity to get to know me because i also did this activity with them.
- Separated the lower achievers into one table, so it was easier to help them, and get to them.
Standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it
- Some resources where given to me by my mentor teachers, and most i had to find and research on the internet through the use of the SCASA and ACARA.
- I received mostly good feedback from my mentors, there were also some good pointers which they picked on, which i found was very encouraging and helpful towards my other lessons. I used the feedback that was given and implemented them into my next lessons.
Standard 3: Plan and implement effective teaching and learning using an integrated approach
- I received a term plan from my mentor teachers.
- Planning and implementing maths and spelling groups through tests that was done at the start of the term on the first day back to determine learning groups and stages.
- Feedback on assignment and students work is done through an app called 'SEESAW', this allows parents and guardians to be more involved in students work, and communicate with teachers.
- The 3 R's: Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
- Students will be respected if the same curtesy is shown towards the teacher.
- There is no talk when the teacher or another person in the room in talking.
- Dojo points as rewards, and points taken away if there is disrespect or behaviour issues in the classroom. 20 dojo students get 15mins free time to go on iPad or do silent reading.
- Hands up when student want to speak and ask questions, there is no shouting out in the classroom.
- Water bottle and pencil cases on the floor so there is no distractions on the desk to fiddle with.
- Maths test to determine what stage each student was at in order for teachers to determine math groups.
- Perimeter test to determine if students understood perimeter, and to group students into learning groups.
- Spelling test to determine whaat stage each student is at interns of their spelling.
- All tests have been marked, reading, maths and spelling groups have been allocated for all students in the 2nd week of term 1.
Standard 6: Engage in Professional Learning
- Morning tea with parents to discuss issue they may have.
- I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to witness teachers PD days on Monday the 29th January and on Tuesday the 30th of January.
- Parents information session and parents-teachers first official meeting conducted at the end of week 1 on the Friday, i was lucky enough to have witnessed the interaction and information session conducted for the parents.
- Parents helpers are welcome to help out in classrooms and volunteer their time, this was mentioned in the parents information session conducted by the year 5/6 teachers.
- Building relationships, communication and building that trust with students, parents and the wider community.
- Community breakfast centre/ sports carnival.
- Parents can stay connected through online resources on the schools official website, they can contact the school through the website if there are any problems, new letters and other resources needed can be retrieved through the school website.
Standard 7: Engage Professionally and develop partnerships with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
- Parents and teachers meeting conducted on the first week of school, in order to clarify things up, and to show how the classroom is setup. Parents can ask questions if there are any problems that they may have, or any special care that is needed for their child.
- Parallel teaching/co-teaching was used between my mentor and myself. This was used in the maths classes that I taught. My mentor would take the low achieving students, and i would take the higher achieving students, this was determined by the marks they received from the worksheet in lesson one.
- Team teaching: was used when i was allocated to help the low achieving students with their literacy worksheets, and reading tasks.
